Congratulations on starting your career journey! The first phase of the career journey
is the Need to Know phase.
Start learning more about yourself by self-assessing your career interests, skills,
values, and workplace preferences. Next, begin exploring potential career paths that
align with your passions and purpose. Having this solid foundation first will help you
make strategic choices in your academic life, clubs, activities, and applied learning
experiences.
Move through the Need to Know phase by participating in these activities:
1. Take all four PathwayU Career Assessments - Create an account at
Wichita.PathwayU.com to take the career assessments and explore career matches
that align with your interests, personality, values, and workplace preferences.
Also, you will be able to see which majors at Wichita State connect to your desired

2. Discover your Strengths - ShockerStrengths strives to help you discover and use
your unique strengths for success in school, work, and life. Visit

3. Explore your career path - Connect with an industry professional and conduct
an informational interview to learn more about their role. Check out our guide to

4. Attend a career fair - Career fairs are a great opportunity to explore industries,

5. Set-up your Shocker Central profile - Fill out each section on your Shocker Central
profile to completion. Make Shocker Central work for you by creating a profile that
