Curriculum Vitae (CV)
A CV is a detailed academic document highlighting your educational and professional credentials. Unlike a resume, which
summarizes your experience, a CV provides a full history of achievements and can be multiple pages long. It is commonly used
for academic, research, and teaching positions.
KEEPING IT ATS FRIENDLY - DO'S AND DON'TS
Use a simple, top-to-bottom format
free of images, tables, and columns.
Submit as a PDF or DOCX file.
Use standard fonts like Calibri, Times
New Roman, or Arial.
Don't Include tables, images,
or logos.
Don't use fancy or unrecognizable
fonts.
Don't submit your CV as a JPEG or PNG
file.
Sections of a CV
Contact Information: This should include your name, phone number, professional
email, city and state location.
2. Academic History: Include institutions attended, the location of the school,
degrees earned, and graduation month and year.
3. Relevant Skills: Hard skills (e.g., software proficiency, certifications, languages).
4. Professional Experience: Include internships, assistantships, and work experience
in reverse chronological order. Also include position title, company worked for,
location, dates worked, and 3-5 expanded bullet points about your experience.
5. Activities & Organizations: Include leadership roles, professional memberships,
and extracurricular involvement, with dates.
6. Volunteer Experience: Include community engagement and service projects, with
dates and location.
7. Awards & Achievements: Include scholarships, grants, and recognitions.
8. Publications & Presentations: Include research papers, conference presentations,
and published works. Record these activities in APA citation format.
9. Projects: Include academic or professional projects with key contributions
highlighted.
10. Conferences: Include any academic or professional conferences attended.
11. Relevant Coursework
12. Certifications: Include industry-relevant certifications and licenses.

14. Exam Results: This is optional, but include when required for admission. (ACT, GRE,
MCAT, LSAT, etc.)

information as possible.
